Adoption Garage Sale

On July 14th - July 17th we had a HUGE benefit garage sale to help fund some of our adoption costs. I got the idea from someone that I correspond with on one of my adoption registries online. You don't realize how much you need to talk to people that understand the gravity of the experience of adoption until your in the middle of trying to make it all happen. The encouragement and guidance from others has certainly helped us persevere. It is difficult to deal with the fact that a dollar amount is attached to a child when there is no amount of money that would detour us from moving forward with our desire to build our family. We are doing anything and everything to try to make this happen. We started collecting donations from friends, family, and co-workers in April. We were astonished by the number of people that contributed to our sale and wanted to be part of what we are doing. By the time the actual sale came around we had to stop accepting donations because we had so much stuff. We have 150 feet of concrete behind our house and on sale day it was lined from top to bottom. We couldn't have put it all together without my mom, sister, and Auntie Deb. They spent countless hours helping us sort through things, organize, prep for our big day, and worked for free as cashiers. When we totaled our sales we were humbled to say the least and overwhelmed with gratitude. We made almost $4000.00! The ironic thing was that people were thanking us for hauling off stuff they wanted to be rid of. I guess the phrase "one man's junk is another man's treasure" couldn't be more relevant. Pretty amazing.....
