June 6th was an incredible day for our family. It was a day that we had anticipated for a very long time. Our social worker, Donna Mecham, came to spend a couple of days with our family to complete our home study for our adoption. It was monumental for us, as it was the final step of the paperwork nightmare that we had been living for almost nine months. We had so much anxiety going into it but Donna was amazing and it wasn't nearly as painful as we had imagined. It really made us realize how easy it is to take for granted the ability to make the decision to just have more children. When you are faced with the hardship of that no longer being an option, you are forced to look at things in a whole different light. We were in control when we were pregnant with Aiden. As a couple we were able to make decisions independently without considering anyone else's opinion. We knew our home study was part of the process and believe that it is a critical step in the process of adoption. It was incredibly difficult though, to all of the sudden be forced to have our worth as parents determined by someone else. It is slightly intimidating to have a complete stranger come into your home to decide whether or not you are fit to be a parent. It was very surreal. Overall it was a great experience, just as every step of this journey has been. We can't wait to bring another little one into our family and every bridge we cross brings us closer to that day.
Wow, CONGRATS!!
